The dreaded vote of confidence

21 06 2008

I was given the dreaded vote of confidence that every manager fears, when I received a message after my 7 match winning streak.

The board are delighted with the current progress the team is making

I have reached the month of February in my FIFA 08 Manager Mode career with Celtic. I have noticed an EA mistake with the fixture list, playing back to back fixtures against my rivals Rangers and also playing Kilmarnock twice, before and after the Rangers games.

The first fixture against Kilmarnock was sealed by a tremendous through ball from Paul HARTLEY which split the defence and Scott McDONALD ran on to it and cooly slotted home for a 1-0 victory.

Even in a computer game, the fixture against Rangers provides a buzz.

Rangers are 7 points clear at the top of the table, these really are 2 must win games, if I want to grab the league title.

Rangers dominated the earlier encounter of the season winning 1-0. These 2 fixtures could prove a pivotal point in my Manager Mode career. I dominated both encounters, playing neat patient passing football, and waiting on openings. This is the key to playing FIFA 08, you cannot go on wonder runs, you have to check back at times and probe for openings. That’s why I am loving the game so much. It’s a real challenge.

The first match ended 0-0, a match that resembled a game of chess, there was limited chances with both defences on top.
The second match seen one of my new signings grabbing his first goal for the club, ex Barcelona youngster Bojan was on hand to knock in a Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink shot into the net late in the game. I cut Rangers lead to 4 points after the 1-0 victory.

I was brought back down to earth with my third and heaviest defeat of the season against Kilmarnock, losing 2-0. This is the first time this season that I have conceded 2 goals in a game, I never at any point looked like scoring. Disappointing.

Rangers lead is again 7 points.

TEAM CHEMISTRY
I touched on this in a previous post, I want to bring this up again. My three new signings Gareth BALE, Gionani DOS SANTOS and BOJAN, when I go to play them all from the start I lose 7 points. My team chemistry drops from 74 to 67, I am in a quandary to whether to play them all from the start and lose the team chemistry and give them the experience points or play them the way I am doing at the moment.

I am slowly introducing them into team, Gareth Bale is a regular starter with the other two coming on as subs.

I would really like to know exactly how the team chemistry works, I understand that consistent team selection is important in football. Does this apply in FIFA? I have read in forums with varying comments, on some peoples teams are as low as 50 and some as high as 90, does it make a difference in terms of team performance?

I will be looking into this. It is puzzling me.
