Going from strength to strength

29 06 2008

I have reached the end of the first round of fixtures in my 2nd season in FIFA 08 Manager Mode with Celtic.  I am in a healthy position in both, league and European competitions.

EFA Cup

Is the equivalent of the UEFA Cup, I qualified for the group stages after defeating Watford in the qualifying round 4-0 over 2 legs.  I won and drew in my opening 2 group fixtures.

  • CELTIC 2 SC Heerenveen 0
  • FC Zurich 0 CELTIC 0

I looked through the group tables, and I came across more glaring mistakes in manager mode.  Standard Liege who are in my group are also in another group! (I have shown this mistake in the pictures below)  I noticed Charlton, Dagenham & Redbridge and Cheltenham Town also appear in the EFA groups, add Watford who I played in the qualifying round, these clubs are in the Championship and Coca-Cola leagues, yet they appear in the EFA Cup.  Something’s not right.

League Fixtures

  • Inverness Caley 0 CELTIC 1
  • CELTIC 1 Motherwell 0
  • Falkirk 1 CELTIC 2
  • CELTIC 2 St Mirren 0
  • Gretna 0 CELTIC 1
  • CELTIC 0 Kilmarnock 0
  • CELTIC 2 Hearts 0
I remain unbeaten in all competitions this season, conceding a solitary goal, I am proud of this defensive record.  I have been playing FIFA for 6 weeks now, reading various forums, Professional seems the popular choice of difficulty.  I have read that the game becomes unbalanced when moving to World Class and Legendary difficulty levels.
The league table after the first round of fixtures, a VERY healthy lead, what has happened to Rangers this season?  I may have to think about moving up to World Class difficulty, if I go any further ahead in the league.  Although, I must add that the majority of games are close affairs.

Wow, the game is just riddled with annoying little bugs/niggles. I’d heard about the lower English league teams making it into the UEFA cup equivalent. I have no idea what they’re doign there. I’ve finsihed in teh top league positions with my Dagenham & redbridge team over the past few seasons and never qualified for Europe, so I don’t know.

I’ve been playing on World Class for the past few sessions, and it is almost different game. It’s true that the game is unbalanced in the AI’s favour, but no more so than the higher levels on PES. I think you’re ‘owning’ the Ai on professional now and you’ll want to move up soon. Be wary, though. About six months ago I tried moving up before I’d thoroughly satisfied myself on Professional and I found World Class frustrating that I went back down again.

At this moment I’m just itching to get my hands on FIFA09 and then PES2009. It’s almost a case of treading water until they get here, which is a shame I think because I still have worlds to conquer on both FIFA08 and the last-gen version of PES2008. At least the FIFA09 demo should hit PSN in late August if last year is any guide. Not too long now.

Greg

I was just reading your FIFA article.

Yeah, I am thinking of playing the remaining league games on World Class. Although, as I have said, the games are still close affairs, I am not dominating the games.

I am finding more and more bugs in MM. It doesn’t make a difference in terms of my enjoyment of game. I just hope they correct in 09. EA are in a different ballpark in terms of listening to fans, through the EA Forum and games conferences.

I am looking forward to both games, If I am being honest, more so FIFA 09. It is more challenging for ME, with 2 difficulty levels still to sample. I am glad I took your advice again, and gave it a go.

It has not been out my console, since I bought it. Although, I haven’t played in a few days due to my bout of tonsillitis, in fact I’ve been in bed since Wed night.

I’ll get back to reading your articles the past few days.

Cheers
