My midfield dynamo

2 07 2008

I am halfway through my 2nd season in FIFA 08 Manager Mode with Celtic.  I am predominantly using the Celtic Squad players as my first choice XI, I have signed 3 players Gareth BALE, Giovani DOS SANTOS and Bojan.

I want to comment on one player who has stuck out from the rest, Scott BROWN has been an absolute colossus in central midfield.  In real life he is a bustling, energetic midfielder, he is this and more in my FIFA 08 manager mode.  His long range shooting is immense, he is not known for this in real life, but how deadly he is in FIFA 08, compared to my other midfielders in this area.  When you play FIFA you don’t (well I don’t) get many goals from long range, all my efforts seem to come from this guy.

If I ever change sides in my manager mode career, I will be buying him, as he is still young and will continue to improve.

Here is a video compilation of his goals in my manager mode career.

I have switched back to Professional difficulty, after losing a 13 point lead at the top of the table, having switched to World Class difficulty.  I am glad that I tried World Class, as it gives me an insight into what lies ahead when I eventually make the switch.  Which, I will do, but I will not be running before I can walk. The 7 weeks I have been playing FIFA since switching from PES, for the first time in 10 years, I am getting to grips with the game and see big improvements.

My previous fixtures on World Class, seen me knocked out of the EFA Cup (UEFA Cup equivalent) by Sporting Lisbon on away goals.

These set of fixtures seen me returning to League duty, and try to get my title aspirations, back on track, after surrendering a 13 point lead, although, I have 2 games in hand, 4 points behind Rangers.  Thanks, world class, but for the moment a class to far.

  • Inverness Caley 0 CELTIC 2

That last one in the compilation looked sensational—the dip! the swerve! I don’t think I’ve seen such exaggerated ball movement on a long-range goal in FIFA08 yet. Was it a finesse shot?

I didn’t mean for you to wreck your season by trying out World Class! I thought you’d play a few Exhibition games just to get the feel for it. Sorry about that…

I’ll be posting on Sunday about how my Dagenham & Redbridge career is faring now that I’ve moved up to World Class and am in the Championship trying to get promoted to the Premier League. It’s hard but intense and enjoyable. For now, I’ll just share a titbit of transfer market awfulness with you. During the transfer window I bid for Schweinsteiger—yep, the top-class German international—and I got him. Ouch. Fingers crossed for a proper transfer market in 09.

No, it wasn’t a finesse shot mate, I use semi-assisted in shooting. It makes a huge difference, I can apply swerve to the ball after letting fire.

I have scored 2 since, and arguably both are better. He is a giant in this game, he is the real deal in real life, his season was affected by the illness of his sister, who sadly passed away. He is/will be a revelation, and is the one player who I will be signing if and when I move on.

No probs mate, I had a healthy lead and wanted to try a harder difficulty level. I don’t play friendlies, as I feel they are not the same in terms of competition play even in virtual play.

If I win my 2 games in hand, I can go level, for some reason Professional feels harder after the switch. Strange.

I wish you would post more often regarding FIFA, I get the feeling you like it as much as I do. I will look forward to Sunday’s post. I am not signing anyone else, I will stick with my squad.

I’ll be honest mate, getting a bit bored with the SPL. My next post will explain why, same old is a hint.

I do indeed like FIFA08—not as much as you do, as I’m still a regular PES2008 man. You know what I think has kept me at PES2008? The PSP version. It allows me to keep the immersion going in my Master League at all times. But for the PSP I doubt I’d still be playing PES this year at all. I can’t do the same thing on FIFA08, alas.

I’m thinking of doing a special few days, maybe even a week, on FIFA08 and my hopes for FIFA09 sometime at the end of the month/start of next. As the next weeks pass the blizzard of news and screenshots and videos (for both games) is just going to intensify.
